This is the time of year Allyson and I make our first batch of Apple Pie Moonshine. The problem with this shine is that it’s so darn delicious. It tastes just like Apple Pie but in liquid form. For the past several years we’ve been having fun with the packaging, designing cool labels and putting them on oh-so popular mason jars. They are the perfect holiday gift for friends, neighbors and yes, even some teachers and are a huge hit at Holiday Parties. Now, many jars later, it’s in high demand. I’m not even kidding when I say we could actually start an underground Apple Pie Moonshine business with a nice little profit. We’ve both had numerous calls from friends and relatives asking if we’ve made the Pie yet and most of them are offering cash money!
Because of it’s awesomeness, there is a buzz and people are inquiring, hoping and expecting us to show up with numerous jars for parties and for all of their guests. But since we’ve been working around the clock to launch our new line of pillows and poufs, we don’t have the time to keep up with the demand. Branching out into the moonshine business, as fun as it sounds, just isn’t possible right now – so we’ve decided to share our recipe!
The thing is… it’s pretty easy to make. Anyone could make it – even Allyson and I can, which considering that neither of us would be considered… let’s say, “kitchen savy,” it really is a snap! In the interest of making sure everyone gets their Apple Pie Moonshine this year we’ve included the recipe below. We’ve also put a link to some cool labels you can download and print. We print four on a page of 8.5 x 11 mailing labels, cut them out and wrap them around the Mason Jars.
1 Gallon Apple Juice
1 Gallon Apple Cider
2 Cups sugar
2 Cups brown sugar
8 Cinnamon sticks
Mason Jars (12 quart jars or 24 pints – give or take a few)
1 Liter Grain Alcohol (We get Everclear 150 proof – its as high as you can get in NC
Directions: Bring Apple Juice, Apple Cider, sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon sticks to boil in a large pot. Once boiling remove the pot from heat and let cool to room temperature – this is VITALLY IMPORTANT, the alcohol could start a fire if you put it in while the mix is still hot. Stir in the liter of alcohol once the apple juice mixture is cooled and then pour into the mason jars. Put a 1/2 piece of cinnamon stick in each jar, put on the lid and wash and dry the outside of each jar. Download and print our labels – or make your own – cut them out and attach to the jar and voila! You’re a moonshiner!
So all you need is a handful of ingredients, label/sticker paper, a printer and mason jars and you too, can have Apple Pie Moonshine packaged like a pro to impress your friends and family this Thanksgiving!
